Improvisation is one of the most challenging yet rewarding performance art disciplines. This program will give students the basics that they need to become confident and articulate speakers, able to think on their feet and trust their peers. We’ll end the term with a sketch-improv, “Whose Line Is It Anyway” style performance for friends and family!
LENGTH: 11 WEEKS
DATES: WEDNESDAYS - SEPTEMBER 26 - DECEMBER 5
LOCATION: RONCESVALLES UNITED CHURCH (214 WRIGHT AVE.)
COST: $300/TERM (TAX INCL.)
"Improvisation teaches some very valuable fundamental social skills and especially when taught at a young age, can help kids grow into thoughtful, empathetic, confident adults. The single golden rule of improv is "yes, and...": as in, 'I hear your contribution, acknowledge it, and will add one of my own'. It's an attitude that is practised and reinforced in every scene and exercise, until it become second nature for kids to listen to and understand other people's ideas or perspectives, then have the confidence to articulate a new idea of their own. I highly encourage kids and teens to take an improv course to get started practising those qualities that will help them build friendships, develop empathy for their peers and confidence in their ideas, to develop a spirit of unmitigated exploration and all in an unconditionally supportive, super fun environment!” - Al Val, Improvisation Teacher
